October 2017 Food Swap at Sports Basement

SF Swappers is under new management. Aimee and Stephanie have passed the torch to Hima, who plans to hold quarterly swaps. We meet at Sports Basement on Bryant at 16th Street. Sports Basement provides meeting space  to local groups, as long as the event is free and open to the public. So if you're interested in joining us, watch this space and come to our next swap with your homemade specialties.

We had a small turnout this time, probably due to the fine weather, a welcome break from the recent heat waves.

Hima brought hot sauce and "zesty" salt, which is mixed with dehydrated chili peppers. Hima, who shares my enthusiasm for small appliances, has a food dehydrator.
I made soft caramels and dipped them in dark chocolate. I also bought dried black mission figs and dried sweet cheeries at Trader Joe's and dipped them too.
Suzie made masala, and cooked chicken in it to show it off.
Angela received sourdough started at the last swap, and has been making sourdough bread ever since. These small loaves are perfect for swapping.
She also brought her own mixture of "Black Licorice Sugar," which contains fennel and anise seeds.
Aimee made chimichurri for us, but left its use to our own imagination.
There was the usual potluck. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of Aimee's beautiful kale salad. I did eat my share of it, though!
