J.K. is a member of BzzAgent, an international network of consumers who receive products in return for voluntarily participating in word-of-mouth (WOM) campaigns. The process requires participants to tell everyone to whom they spread the word that the product was a gift from the manufacturer.
Her current campaign is Barilla ProteinPlus pasta. The BzzKit contained full-size retail packages of ProteinPlus penne and spaghetti. The front of the package proclaims 17 grams of protein in the 3.5 ounce serving, but the nutrition information on the side of the package states that a serving is 2 ounces, with 10 grams of protein. The "regular" pasta has 7 grams of protein in a 2 ounce serving. While this is an increase of almost 50%, it isn't a large amount of extra protein. But despite the added protein, the flavor is the same, so you might as well get the extra protein.
The BzzKits usually include several coupons to share with friends, but this one had only one coupon.
J.K. prefers macaroni (easier to eat than spaghetti) but her local Safeway had the spaghetti on sale for half price, which should appeal to the budget-conscious consumer, and is a good way to "test drive" a new product with minimum investment. The package is easy to identify:
